Friends of the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area
The Friends of the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The Mission of the Friends of Brooklyn is to assist the Wisconsin DNR in stewardship of the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area and surrounding areas. Activities include:
- Attempting to control invasive species.
- Assisting the DNR with controlled burns and other activities.
- Mowing recreational hiking trails.
- Maintaining trails and removing fallen trees.
- Maintaining a prairie nursery as a source of seeds to extend prairie areas.
- Organizing public hikes and volunteer activities.
- Providing educational and service learning opportunities for school groups, scouts, youth groups.
- Facilitating technical classes on safety and skills for stewardship volunteers.
Board of Directors
Friends of Brooklyn is governed by a three to five person Board of Directors, a chairperson, secretary, and treasurer. Board meetiing are open to the public and usually occur in January or February. See Upcoming Events & Volunteer Opportunities for schedule.
Volunteers
All of our restoration programs have been made possible through dedicated voluteers and contributions. (We have no paid staff or positions.) Please join us for the fun and satisfaction of restoring and preserving our Native Landscapes.
Friends of Brooklyn maintains no formal membership; anyone who supports our mission is welcome to participate in activities, to attend board meetings, or to serve on the board.
