Surrounding Lands Map
Here's a google map of the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area with some points of interest marked with colored pins.
- Green pins are parking lots.
- The blue pin is a well with a hand pump with potable water.
- The Northern red pin marks the point where the Ice Age Trail crosses Dane County Hwy D. There is no off road parking there. Please park in parking lot to be safe.
- The Southern red pin marks the start of an unmaintained trail to Story Creek from Hughes Road. There is no off road parking there.
This section of the Ice Age Trail begins at the parking lot at Hughes Road, runs through the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area to the parking lot at Piller Road, follows Piller Road North, and eventually joins the Badger State Bike Trail near the junction of State Hwy 69 and Dane County Hwy A.
The information Google map displays depends on how deep you zoom in or out. The best way to see the Ice Age and other trails is by using the satellite view as these trails only appear at higher detail levels in the map view. The Ice Age Trail Alliance has very good maps of the trail at here.
Clicking or hovering the mouse over the Map button on the map causes a check box to appear for the terrain feature. Checking this box will display relief and elevation contour lines.
Switch between map view and satellite view by clicking on the Map and Satellite buttons on the map.
Pressing the "full screen" button will cause the map to be displayed as full screen. Press the ESC key to get out of full screen mode and back to regular map page.
Move around the map by dragging with your mouse or finger, zoom in and out with the + or - buttons or the CTRL key plus your mouse scroll wheel.
Clicking or hovering the mouse over one of the pins causes a description to appear. (If no description appears move the mouse off the map and then back to the pin.)
The map does not work using IE; support for IE has terminated. Use Edge instead.
DNR and Stewardship Easements are private lands open for public access, however not all nature-based activities may be allowed.
Please respect land owner rights on private lands open to public access. Observe postings on private land to avoid trespassing.
Clicking the Mark My Position button adds a yellow flag to the map showing where you are. You will probably have to answer a permission pop-up from your browser. The time you pressed the button will be added to the pin and can be viewed by clicking the pin. (If this fails try this site )
